Matthew Richards

Photographer based in Southern/Western Maine. Always looking to photograph some landscapes and document things I see.

My photography journey really started in high school where I would pick up National Geographic magazines in study hall and was amazed by the stories that the photographers were able to tell through their images. From there, around 2010 when I was a Communications and New Media student at Southern Maine Community College, I enrolled in a photography course and bought my first DSLR camera. I became obsessed with photography and started to learn as much as I could about it. I would take my camera with me everywhere and soon all of my adventures involved my camera. A few years later I was asked to shoot a wedding. From there I started shooting more weddings, portraits, real estate, etc. I had started doing freelance photography for money on the side. If nothing else it would pay for new gear that I wanted. Now my focus is back on to what originally got me into photography. Grabbing my camera to go on an adventure and document things that I see. I think an image is still one of the best ways to show the realness of a place, person, culture, event.
