Winter Blues
It's been a very cold winter so far in Maine. It's currently 2 Degrees Fahrenheit and doesn't look like it will reach above freezing anytime soon. The weather has made me stay in more than I typically do. One thing I've been doing to keep myself busy is play guitar and attempt to remember songs I learned 10+ years ago.
About a month ago I picked up a prs se custom 22 semi hollow body guitar. I had a prs years ago when I was in highschool and have always regret selling it. That guitar was a fender stratocaster style guitar with three single coil pickups, a tremolo and a white pickguard. I recall fighting with the single coil pickups though because at the time I was using a lot of distortion (too much really) and the feedback was terrible.
Fast forward to 2017 and prs makes some pretty great affordable guitars (and still tons that are unaffordable). The prs that I got is a semi hollow body guitar which I like because it gives it a great air and unique tone compared to the solid body. I also chose this guitar with a stop tail piece because honestly whenever I have a guitar with a whammy bar or floyd rose I never use it and just fight with keeping it in tune. Another reason I chose this guitar is because of the 85/15 "s" pickups. The guitar I have been playing for the past 8+ years has a pair of active emgs in it. Those pickups are great for what they do, but I just prefer passive pickups at this point and the ones in this prs sound great.
I never really found myself rolling off the volume to clean up the guitar and then bring it back up before I got this guitar. Maybe that's just my playing style changing over the years though. This has a mahogany body with a maple top and maple neck which also adds to the tone of the guitar. It has the prs bird inlays and rosewood fretboard. The prs tuners are decent enough, but I may one day upgrade it to locking tuning pegs. All in all I think that this is a pretty good guitar for the money.
