Bear Mountain - Waterford, Maine
The view as you drive in to Waterford, Maine from Bridgton/Harrison along Route 35 is a scenic one. To the left you have Bear Pond and to the right you have these rock cliffs that make up Bear Mountain. I’ve always wanted to explore it a bit more, but at the bottom there are tons of rocks that are used for Falcons as nesting areas so many times of the year you’re not able to really explore there too much. I recently found a trail that goes up through the woods to the summit of Bear Mountain. The trail is a bit steep in places, but the views are worth the relatively short hike.
Below is a view seen along the hike to the summit. You can see Bear Pond out behind you as you hike up through the trees.
The trees changed quickly this year. Lots of Autumn colors popping up in the trees.
Hard to capture in photograph, but the trail was very steep at times and if you’re not careful it could be easy to lose your footing.
From the summit there are good views of Pleasant Mountain located not too far away in Bridgton, Maine.
Below you can see Long Lake stretching from Harrison, Bridgton to Naples.
Below are a couple of photos I took about half way up Bear Mountain of some large rock formations with anchors in them for rock climbing.
