Watkins Blacksmith Shop - Casco, Maine

Capturing the ancient craft of blacksmithing at Watkins Blacksmith Shop in Casco, Maine. Lucas Damen (@hammerforgecreations) shared his knowledge and skills during an engaging demonstration. The Watkins Blacksmith shop is the oldest working Blacksmith shop in Maine. It’s my understanding (and I could be wrong) that the Watkins Blacksmith shop was in full time use from 1850 - 1940. The original location was in Raymond, Maine off of 302 that started as a Blacksmith shop that would service the many oxen that would be traveling through that needed new shoes. The Oxen lift they used to change the Oxen shoes is also located in the Watkins Blacksmith shop. Parts from carriages and of automobiles were found while disassembling and moving the shop, which suggests that the shop also worked on all sorts of modes of travel over the years.
